MERCEDES-BENZ OF LONG BEACH ANNOUNCES CONTINUED SUPPORT OF WOMENSHELTER OF LONG BEACH

Signal Hill, CA, December 27, 2011 — Mercedes-Benz of Long Beach is proud to share its success in supporting the WomenShelter of Long Beach during the 2011 holiday season. The employees of

Mercedes-Benz of Long Beach banded together and adopted two families for Christmas. Both were single mothers with multiple children and had fallen on hard times over the past year.

Among the items Mercedes-Benz of Long Beach gifted was a laptop computer to one of the mothers – who has been going to the library every night to do her schoolwork on a computer. Other items included gift cards for clothes, dishes, food and other household items that were needed by the families.

“We set up two Christmas trees in the showroom and we put all of their gifts under them and had them come in last week and open them,” said Mercedes-Benz of Long Beach Business Manager Heather Noriega. “It was incredibly moving. One of the mothers said it was the best Christmas they’ve ever had and we felt so blessed to be reminded what this time of year is really about – which is spreading the love and paying it forward.”
Mercedes-Benz of Long Beach also donated turkeys to the WomenShelter in November for Thanksgiving and will continue to support this cause in the future.

“Mercedes-Benz of Long Beach is extremely proud to have made another donation to the WomenShelter of Long Beach and continue our support of this wonderful and meaningful place,” said Mercedes-Benz of Long Beach General Manager Bob Milner. “This organization has been helping people in our community for years, so it is only right to return the favor any way we can.”

For over 30 years, the mission of WomenShelter of Long Beach has been to eliminate domestic violence through compassionate intervention, education and personal empowerment.

In 1977, Virginia Corbett, founded WomenShelter of Long Beach and donated the house that was used as the first shelter. Corbett was a local psychologist and activist who became frustrated when she realized that her clients who were victims of domestic violence had no place to go when they wanted to leave their abusers.

The 4-bedroom, 11-bed shelter was one of the first of its kind in Southern California, part of a growing movement to provide assistance for battered women and their children.

Mercedes-Benz of Long Beach proudly serves the greater Los Angeles and Orange County area.
